R.A.A.F. school and Penang hold a very fond place in my heart. Apart from good friends in small, happy classes and great teachers, I remember the exotic lifestyle - the Chinese funerals that were like carnivals, the reclining Buddha statue, the Chinese opera and makan carts; quinine tablets and sleeping under mosquito nets; visiting a rubber plantation and the Scout jamboree in Bangkok and quiet beaches with coconut palms. I remember the wall of chilly air that hit me as I entered Cold Storage Creameries for ice cream or a milkshake - and the equally solid wall of humidity that hit me on the way out!

After Penang, I finished school in Birmingham, U.K., worked as a postman for 18 months and returned to Australia in 1967. I lived in Manly, N.S.W. and moved to Darwin, N.T. in 1972, where I worked for Telecom for the next 18 years. In 1990, I migrated to Canada and am now living a very quiet life in a small town in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia.
