The bus ride from the Airport to our new home was the start of 3 year adventure that would shape my life everlasting.Gekos running up and down the wall's the first morning looking up at Scout Rock the trip to Lucky Taylor to get fitted for an all White School uniform.(yes still there as of 2009)Would go running up the hill from our place to find the old Jap fort's(only 1 left now near the Temple on top of the hill. My name still there WOW)Hostel to get the first of a long line of Jabs anyone would punch your arm if they knew.Playing sport became nearly all consuming. Friday Night Grand finals under lights the Joeys dances. Playing men's Basketball on field trips to Ipoh and Alostar.
The whole Island was really like a great big back yard and the adventures like so many were very special and unique. 5 cent smokes at the little shop up from the hostel (would be demolished by now) right where you caught the bus. Speaking of the bus you could ride into Georgetown for 25 cents catch a movie, drink beer at a cafe (ice in glass to keep cold) no age limit ha.
I lived at Armed Bin Kasa near the school then we moved to Tanjong Tokong 515L Tanjong Bunga Road last house on the left just past the Chinese Swimming Pool (it's now a car yard) At the right turn into the Kampong. Accidents nearly ever day(now sealed and traffic lights). The Mad mile used to have markets along it where you could buy all the Bootleg Tapes you ever needed and go watersking in the lagoon over the Sea Break (all reclaimed land with houses now )
Went back for the 2005 reunion and saw the changes and due to my intrest in motogp have been back a few more times. Hired moterbikes and have been riding back through my past history to all the places we went. To see massive changes. This web site has been great unfortunatly the school never put names on class photos. Fark trying to put faces to mames getting oldtimer's.
The time I lived in Penang was a special time.Wasn't all good but life's like that and too all of the people whatever the era hope it be a very special memory.
From the distant past quick montarge on 35 year's Married 2 Kids. Lived in Cental VIC Bendigo when we returned from Penang. Drove Interstate between Melb Perth lived in Perth for 9 years then drove Nth Central WA. Raced motorcycles for a while. Moved and have now lived in Byron Bay for last 18 years.
