The experience of going to RAAF school Penang were the
best years growing up. I think we lived at 12 Taman Tolek Molek, Bagan Ajam,
Butterworth. We used to get up in the dark to go to school to catch the bus
to Penang. I vaguely recall there was a song we used to sing about our bus
number or going to the RAAF school??
While reading some of the other updates of names that looked familiar the memories of the Australian Cricket team, Rolf Harris and some big band coming to play especially for us came flooding back. How lucky were we! It was a great time. I remember riding around the neighbourhood with my brothers on our bikes causing havoc to the locals. Getting lollies from Australia were also a big deal. Buying satays on the side of the road along the beach for next to nothing. It was such a great lifestyle - I remember my parents having a busy social life. It was one big party.
My mum is originally from Penang and I was born there so we go back every 3-4 years to visit the relatives and dose up on the local cuisine. Lucky for me, my husband also enjoys Penang. Hopefully I'll make it to the next Penang reunion (my brothers might even go). I could go on forever and loved it when we were there. I wish my children could have the same experience.
This is a fantastic site. We all have the same passion for our RSP. Keep up the good work.
