On return from Penang I held various school executive positions in Sydney and from 1981 had eight years of country service as principal of two central schools. I am currently principal of Toongabbie PS in Sydney.
Like most us us who had the privilege of working at RAAF school my wife Jan and I have very special memories which we share at get togethers. Our sons certainly are aware of our time there even though the older one was only six months old when we returned to Australia.
We have made two return trips - in 1985, just as the school was about to close, and in 2002. On our most recent trip we noticed many physical changes to Penang but there were still quite a few reminders of the past - we visited Federation Arts and Crafts and the same old timers were serving with their first comments being "you're RAAF school teachers aren't you" - what a buzz!
