Hi, my name is David Mitchell and I was at RAAF School Penang from '69 to '72. I have a lot of fond memories of my time there with my brother Neville, friends John McConnell, Mick Gray, Steve Kelly, Frank Shilton and so on.
When we returned to Oz I worked in a service station for a short time in Werribee on the pumps. Afterwards I trained as, and became the youngest Tour Coach Captain at the age of 20.
I served in the RAAF from Feb79 to Sep 88 as a motor transport fitter, but was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in 1985. As a consequence I now have to be careful of what I do.
I have lived in Adelaide for the past 22 years and play guitar in my local church band. My hobbies include music, knife and sword making and building radio controlled model aircraft and boats. I have also built speaker systems for guitars, rebuild broken guitars to give to kids who are unable to buy their own, and I have even built my own electric guitar from scratch.
I studied Japanese swordsmanship [Iai-do, Iai-juitsu, hokusin shinoh iai-do, muso jikiden iai-jitsu] for 14 years to the rank of Sensei 5th dan. Previous to this I studied Wing Chun Kung-Fu at the Melbourne Academy under William Chung, which included a high degree of proficiency in martial arts weaponry.
I have been happily married for 21 years to my wife Joanne and have two daughters. My eldest daughter is Kristy who is 20 years old and is married to my son-in-law Matt. They have recently blessed us with our first grandson Jayson who is two months old. My second daughter is Lisa who is 14.
I would be pleased to hear
from anyone who remembers me and is interested in catching up.
