Updated May 2011

In Memory of Barney.

I have received confirmation from various sources that Barney passed away early this year from cancer.
I'll miss Barney as he was an email-friend but I never got to meet him. We would have met, had
he been able to attend the first Penang reunion in 2005.

Thank you Trish for contacting me.

Update October 2008

Since my last contribution to this page, I have had a few changes. I survived a liver transplant in 2006 and have been living in Vanuatu for the last year, I am the Engineering Manager for Air Vanauatu. If you remember me, please feel free to drop a line, I am very big into nostalgia. Cheers

What can I say about those incredible years at RAAF School Penang? When I was told about this site, (thanks to Trish Lucas), I logged on and was filled with great memories I hadn’t thought about for a long time.

It is a little scary to think, (in my case), that it was over thirty years ago since I first ventured into RSP, I still have fond memories of the incredibly short school uniforms the girls wore, (if that wasn’t good enough, they made them virtually see through!!). The fire drills where a lot of us learnt to smoke, the dances and our ahead of our time fashion sense, Nosey Parker trying to decapitate himself on a kampong clothes line riding whilst annoying the locals on our bikes, and so on….. It doesn’t get any better for teenagers. We were the luckiest kids in the world and probably more than a few of us knew it, we certainly did when we got back to the real world!!

Visiting other countries and cultures on our holidays affected me more than I realised, I ended up joining the RAAF, (I know, we all said, no way we would, but I did catch up with a few of you over the years in uniform!!), and made my way back to Butterworth. I completed my nine years and since then have been cruising around the aviation world, I have been fortunate and my work has taken me to few exotic spots and a lot of not so exotic places in the world. All in all I have enjoyed it.

Returning from a Nepal/Bangladesh contract, a few years ago in Thailand, I was lucky enough to meet my wife, she has twenty-year-old son and a beautiful three and a half-year-old grand daughter who is horrified of me. Not too many white faces in Chonburi I guess.

Anyway, if anyone remembers me and would like to drop a line, I would be thrilled. Allow me a bit of time to answer as I am currently working in New Guinea on a month on month off basis, so only get to do my e-mails every second month. Looking forward to hear from you.
