Arrived in Malaya December 1979 - almost suffocated with the humidity after all the airconditioning on the way.

Lived at Seahome on Tan Jong Bunga Road, near the American school and a very short walk to the Makan Carts. At half time swapped sides and moved to the mainland.

Still remember the bus trips, the stink bombs, playing tricks on the locals on the ferry, having an escort during was games.

Remember the athletics, running up the mountain or attempting to, playing on the oval at lunch to return to class with shirts sticking to us or playing a very serious game of marbles.

I remember starting at Scouts on the Island with me in my olive green uniform from Australia with everyone else in their Blues. Playing red rove with the green uniform earned my nickname of Grasshopper or Grassy as it became.

Now live in Sydney, married and with three children of my own with no chance they will be allowed to get up to the things we did in Malaya - a shame really.

Have enjoyed the site and looking at the school photos - returned to Aust. May 1982 so must have missed that year's photos.
