Veronica Matthey

I was 4 1/2 years old in 1967 when I started school - Miss Smith was my teacher. I already had 2 boyfriends, David and Glen Martin, who used to fight over who would carry my bag to school each day. When we came back to Australia in mid 1967, I could not continue with school as I was too young, so I sat out the last half of 1967 and started again in Year 1 in 1968.

I only have vague memories of the majority of the school life there as we came back to Australia in the middle of 1967. I do remember having flavoured milk each day though. I used to have chocolate milk and one day there was only strawberry milk left and I didn't like strawberry. We had to have milk and I was quite stubborn and would not drink it. The rest of the class went off to singing and I was left there by myself so after a while I tipped it down the drain and went off to singing also!

Now I am married, have been for 16 years with 2 children, one, a girl, entering Year 10 in 2003 and a boy, entering Year 8 in 2003. I work fulltime and have not been back to Malaya since we left as kids. One day when my kids are off my hands it would be good to go back and jog the old memory banks.
