Departed Sydney on the Neptunia in
Aug 1960. Met the Howie & Petty families en route to Singapore. Flew from
Singapore to Penang & initially housed in the Aus. Hostel.
We live in Choong Lye Hock Rd for 12mths then at Tanjong Bungah Rd (1st House beside vacant lot - and opposite the Park Hotel).
Vividly recall the social afternoons of sport at the Hostel, Scouting camps (Thailand Jamboree), judo classes of a night and the school dances (I was the wallflower). Trip to the Cameron Highlands by car via Ipoh. It was a mere 75 degrees and we needed JUMPERS!
Trading with the retailers (bartering), magnolia ice-cream and swimming at Lone Pine.
Living in Penang was such a luxury. Cheers to all.
