We did 2 trips to Penang, in the mid seventies we lived on the island and then in the early eighties in Tan Sai Gin on the Mainland. Travelling to school by ferry was an experience, particularly if the there was a ferry jam. Never thought it fair that islanders got off early so we could go on the ferry and "walk" across.

My time and experiences in Penang will always be with me, as I get older I get nostalgic about it, one day I will return, however I know it wont be as I remember it.

The things that stay with me the most: the war games behind my house, the anti aircraft guns at 6.00am as a wake up call, the bus fights on the ferry (bus 13 still rules). The donuts freshly? made and the 1 dollar Char Kai Teow.

Now I am a Senior Manager, have taken my kids overseas to learn a new culture and come back again to Melbourne, but one day they will see where I grew up.
