Well what a wonderful website certainly has brought back
some very fond memories.
After finishing school I joined the RAAF and have spent the last 15 years in the service. I am currently working in logisitics with 75SQN based in Tindal NT
I have ran into a few people who where in Penang during my time and ironically one of these people just happened by chance.
We were off to play cricket against the Army and we ended up talking about RSP and soccer I had played for the hotspurs and was the goalkeeper, it turned out the fella in the back of my car was actually my coach back then pretty small world sometimes. Prior to leaving Penang in 1979 we had a penalty shoot out of which I saved more goals than the opposition, this put us into the grand final but alas I missed the game due to leaving Penang. Dean Ellis returned not long later and brought me a winners trophy which I still treasure.
I returned to Penang on holiday in 1995 and was srprised to how much money and development had gone into Penang. I visited the school (now a girls school) hostie (now manufacturing honda cars), the building hasn't been maintained and is smeared withhorrid black pollution and broken windows, the SNOWS club next door is now a Karaoke Bar. I went to my old residence No 12 Road 4 Bail of Tempe the house has been done up with the chinese decorative stuff all over the fences.
I then shot off down to Seaview (the mini market I think thats whats it was called) well I spoke to the owner and he could remember my name, my dad and the road we had lived in but he couldn't remember the number. Pretty amazing considering my family had left some 16 years prior.
I know my mum keeps in contact with a few of the friends they meet in Malaysia anyways thats about all I can think of feel free to contact me maybe even a game of mahjong hehe.
