Thank you. What a great site. Just spent 2 hours flipping through it.

We lived in OMQ 3 on the married patch and my brother Geoffrey (years 7,8 and 9) and I caught bus 11 or 12 to the school. What a great 2.5 years that was, easily the best time of my childhood.

I'm currently in the RAAF as a pilot on P-3 Orions and get back to Butterworth about once a year. It's changed a lot and makes me appreciate that I was part of something special.

Main memories: The fogging machine!! Jabs every six months. Magnolia ice cream. Dolphins swimming club, where my brother (Geoffrey) got Super Dolphin and I got first starfish. Bus escorts. Fireworks real dangerous ones. Chinese New Year. Getting all the Aussie and Malaysian Holidays. Fresh lime. Excursions to the market. Saturday matinee at the Ad Astra cinema. Aussie lollies when someone went home. Space invaders. Getting an Atari for Christmas. Holidays in Singapore just before Christmas. Trying to keep a straight face as Dad sneaked a stereo through customs. Cubs. Wai Kee tailor. Handball at lunchtime. Satay. Calling those that lived on Penang “Rockites”. School swimming carnival. Monnie drains. Having a 3-speed “chopper” bike. Frangipani trees. Great storms. War games over the base. Running barefoot everywhere. Salad rolls from the canteen. And Kikapoo Joy Juice. Hameediyah’s on Campbell Street. Still the best murtabah in town! Trying to complete a shower while “Waktu! Isyak” was on TV. Curry puffs. Those plants that close when you touch them. Many more memories…. It really was the best time of my childhood.
