I remember arriving at Butterworth as a 13 year old kid who felt a bit uneasy by the bars that covered our house windows.

Arriving at school I soon got to meet some great mates - male and female. My best cobber was Billy Whitehead, we did bloody everything together, good and bad. Alan "browneye" Farley was another mad mate that always had the girls swooning.

Kaylene Swanson was my first girlfriend and I think my first kiss. I was a member of the Dolphins swim club at the base pool, and who could forget the Dolphin dances. I enjoyed watching the RUGBY LEAGUE battles between the various sides so much that a junior competition was started to involve all kids that were interested. I think we ended up with 4 team competition.

My dad was involved in RRB [RAAF RADIO BUTTERWORTH] and I have great memories of sitting in the studios on weekends watching radio come alive. Malaysia was certainly was a fantastic experience.
