My memory has been refreshed after reading some of
the stories of other past students.
It was the social interaction that I remember most - the times spent cycling all over the island, the beach parties and swimming in the ocean (keeping one eye out for sea snakes, the unique smells, particularly in durian season - which was the smell that greeted us as our ship berthed all those many years ago and has stayed with me ever since (I still have not eaten the durian fruit! Just never got past the smell.)
The
buses and millions (or what seemed like millions) of bikes all negotiating the
round-a-bouts at the same time. The different languages, the friendly, always
smiling people, the simplicity of life!
Those years will remain forever
very happy memories.
