Some of my clearest memories are of the old Governors House(s) that we used as a Secondary School for my first 12 months at RSP.

It was a little like going to school at the 'Munster' Mansion. Our Science classes were held in the old garage outside and school dances in an old ballroom (or it seemed to be to me at that age). I was in form three with Geoff MacGuiness, the Rutledge twins...and I'll have to pull out my old copies of the school magazine from those years to fill in the other names.

I was at the opening of the new school in Hillside and was one of the first prefects appointed. I still have the badge tucked away somewhere. The head prefect, as I remember, was Mike (Mick) Nott, the son of our then Principal.

When we first arrived in Penang my parents and I lived at the base of Penang Hill in Ayer Itam with lots of Malay and Chinese families. We were forced to move after the first year and relocated to an apartment on the beach just down the road from the Notts in Tanjong Tokong, near the Chinese Swimming Club. I had my own canoe and my day's consisted of the beach, sport and school...not a bad life for a 14yo.

I have nothing but happy memories of my days at RSP. Lots of sporting activities, cricket, soccer etc against the local Malaysian schools...which we always lost. We were pretty small by comparison. My first (and only) taste of representing my country in a sporting event...I was pretty chuffed to wear the School Crest.

I'll review my old books and update this page with more names of classmates and teachers at a later date.

Regards to all and a big 'hello' to anybody who remembers me.

John
